Inscribed and echoing: a marker for the Founder

There it stood, echoing to the world the words of the man whose passion has been written through the pages of construction’s history and down to the ages – a marker for the Founder, Engr. David M. Consunji.

Unveiling of the David M. Consunji Marker

“In the end, it is your work that will teach you, not any one person. And if you do not love your work, you will not understand it.” Coming from Mr. Consunji, the words resonate a call for everyone to look at him/herself in relation to his/her work. Particularly to those who tread in the organization he has built with sacrifice and zeal, it is to be a reminder that work goes beyond doing and being busy. It is to be and should be a fulfillment of one’s being, a meaning unfolded in the midst of one’s life and in one’s lifetime.

One finds the same words etched in the David M. Consunji Marker that stood in the middle of the Center’s buildings, facing the entrance area. It was formally unveiled in a simple ceremony last Nov. 6, 2009 at the DMCTTC grounds, just before the graduation of carpentry and masonry graduates and welcoming of incoming carpentry trainees who were all workers of DMCI Homes. It was a simple gift for the Founder who was the VIP guest and speaker of the ceremony. At the time of its unveiling, Ms. Christina Consunji-Gotianun, the Founder’s daughter and vice president-chief finance officer of DMCI, was also around to accompany his father. She was also one of the VIP guest speakers of the event.

Other guests who participated in witnessing this event were Ms. Ida Miape, TESDA specialist; Mr. Jowell San Jose, DMCI Homes project manager; Mr. Soc Villamero, DMCI HR sr. supervisor; Ms. Malou Hernandez, DMCI compensation & benefits supervisor; and Mr. Ismael Barbo, DMCI Homes capataz/TESDA-accredited carpentry trainer.

Right after the unveiling, the guests, DMCTTC personnel, graduates and trainees sang together a Happy Birthday song for Mr. Consunji.
